Prime Minister Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim announced that a targeted subsidy plan for RON95 fuel will be introduced by mid-2025. This move aims to ensure subsidies benefit the people who need them most, rather than foreigners and the wealthiest 15% who currently enjoy the subsidy. The government has been subsidizing RON95 fuel by up to RM20 billion in 2023, with an estimated RM8 billion used inefficiently. The savings from the new subsidy plan will be redirected toward improving education, healthcare, and public transport, benefiting the broader population and enhancing essential public services.
