Syed Saddiq is the only parliamentary member who was against the Constitution (Amendment) Bill 2024. There are good parts and controversial parts of the bill. For instance, Malaysian women who gave birth on foreign soil are able to gain their children’s nationality.
However, the controversial part that may be deemed as discriminatory is the citizenship status for kids born in Malaysia to parents who hold Permanent Residency. Another is that stateless individuals above 18-years-old will not be able to apply for Malaysian citizenship.

There are mixed reactions towards the MP’s video on X, some state that he is the voice of justice and equality. While others are criticising him for calling out the new amendment towards the bill.
