The Budget 2025, with its RM130 million allocation for the socio-economic development of the Indian community, has drawn criticism for being insufficient. Former DAP stalwart and Penang chief minister II Prof Ramasamy Palanisamy is chairman of the United Rights of Malaysian Party (Urimai) interim council feels the allocation to the Indian community is a token gesture compared to the RM2 billion set aside for Islamic religious affairs. He argues that despite Anwar’s philosophical references to the Tamil Thirukkural, the budget falls short in addressing the long-standing socio-economic struggles of the Indian community, making his promises feel hollow and lacking genuine impact for Indians.
