The CDC has reported cases of E coli outbreak in 13 states, linking them to raw slivered onions served on McDonald’s Quarter Pounders. In response, McDonald’s removed these onions from menus at 900 locations. Health officials suggest that a recall of onions, suspected to be the contamination source, would help protect consumers. Other fast-food chains have also pulled onions from their offerings. Taylor Farms, a supplier, has voluntarily recalled certain onions distributed to food service operators. As of October 25, additional illnesses have been reported, with all affected individuals confirming they ate at McDonald’s before falling ill. The CDC currently considers the public risk low.
