Beruas MP Datuk Ngeh Koo Ham has urged Minister Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim to change the perception towards those labeled as the “super-rich,” stating they should not benefit from subsidies and government-subsidized services. He also said the rich have greatly contributed to the Madani government’s success with the heavy load of taxes they pay. In 2018, the DAP MP has declared assets amounting to RM82 million, and not RM75 million, as contained in the MACC’s asset declaration website. Meanwhile, Prime Minister Anwar Ibrahim urged MPs to prioritize the needs of the majority over the wealthier top 15%, asking why some are defending the super rich. He stated that targeted subsidies are necessary, as the government spends about RM20 billion annually on subsidies.
