Lawyer Gurdial Singh Nijar confirmed that former finance minister Daim Zainuddin passed away at Assunta Hospital in Petaling Jaya this morning. “Yes. Confirmed his passing on. Funeral this morning,” Gurdial said in a brief text message. “He had a stroke recently and was in the intensive care unit. No further details yet,” he said to Malaysiakini. In August, the sessions court in Kuala Lumpur dismissed an application by the former minister to have his trial over an alleged failure to declare assets to the Malaysian Anti-Corruption Commission (MACC) heard before a different judge.
