A 26-year-old Malaysian, Garald Lim, has been sentenced to three years and nine months in Singapore for his involvement in a scam syndicate. Lim admitted to handling S$125,000 from two victims, who lost a total of S$501,151 to the syndicate. Believing he was working for an unregulated gambling operation called OpenPay, Lim traveled to Singapore to collect money, converting most into cryptocurrency for the group while keeping 1% as commission. Arrested in May, Lim confessed to suspecting the funds were illegally obtained. Despite cooperating with authorities, his lawyers’ plea for a lighter sentence was rejected, citing the scam’s severity.
