The government has agreed in principle to allow petrol station operators to employ foreign workers for cleaning and maintenance in cafés and convenience shops. Home Minister Datuk Seri Saifuddin Nasution Ismail stated this decision does not increase the foreign worker quota.

Government Allows Foreign Workers in Petrol Station Cafés

Human Resource Minister Steven Sim added that direct employment and employer transfers within the Petrol Dealers Association of Malaysia (PDAM) are now allowed.

The government will maintain the freeze on additional foreign worker quotas until Q1 2025. Additionally, employers can hire inmates to address prison overcapacity and reduce dependency on foreign workers.
