“As Prime Minister in 1981, I was paid RM8000/- p.m. 11. As minister the pay was less. So Daim as Minister of Finance from 1984 to 1991 must have lost much money. 12. Yet the belief is that he made money as a minister,” wrote Tun Dr Mahathir Mohamad in yet another reminiscent piece on his best buddy Tun Daim Zainuddin. He also wrote that Daim wanted to enrich the Malays with projects and that this is not cronyism but Daim failed in his attempt to elevate Malays to become rich. He said if Daim succeeded, the rich Malays he helped would be called cronies. But his opponents would want him to fail so the rich can become richer and the poor, poorer.
