PUTRAJAYA, Nov 22 — The Gig Workers Economy Bill, initially slated for a December tabling in Parliament, has been postponed to allow more engagement sessions with stakeholders, announced Communications Minister Fahmi Fadzil. The decision, shared during a Cabinet meeting, reflects a need for further consultations with gig industry players, academics, and experts to ensure the legislation meets diverse needs. Leading platform companies like Grab, Foodpanda, and Lalamove, in a joint statement, called for a phased and inclusive approach to avoid implementation challenges and rising consumer costs. The bill, aimed at protecting gig workers, was first announced by Deputy Prime Minister Ahmad Zahid Hamidi.
