SHAH ALAM: Bersatu faces a “critical” financial crisis as its accounts remain frozen by the Malaysian Anti-Corruption Commission (MACC), said party treasurer Rina Harun. This has hindered grassroots activities, prompting calls for divisions to generate funds through businesses. Rina pledged to mobilize state and division treasurers to create independent financial resources. Rompin Bersatu chief Abdul Khalib Abdullah echoed the call for fundraising during the party’s general assembly, which also launched a donation drive. The MACC froze Bersatu’s accounts in February 2023 over allegations of misappropriated Covid-19 stimulus funds, a move the party is challenging as “selective prosecution.”
