“I just found out that Shopee Loan (SLoan) is actually under the Ministry of Housing and Local Government (KPT),” said Mas Ermieyati Samsudin (PN-Masjid Tanah). She noted that many people in the country frequently purchase various items using the application under Buy Now Pay Later or BNPL. She referred to the SLoan as the era of Buku Lima-Lima which kept the records of purchases on credit in retail shops in the past. She says BNPL loans are now RM1.42 billion and that is a huge figure. She ads that 3.7 million Malaysians of the age 21-45 are now using BNPL and owes money from there.
