Ex-research assistant Yusoff Rawther pleads not guilty to cannabis trafficking charges

KUALA LUMPUR, Dec 6 — Muhammed Yusoff Rawther, 31, a former research assistant to a politician, pleaded not guilty in the High Court to trafficking 305 grams of cannabis on September 6. The charge, under Section 39B(1)(a) of the Dangerous Drugs Act 1952, carries a mandatory life sentence and at least 12 lashes if convicted. The alleged offence occurred at the Kuala Lumpur Contingent Police Headquarters. Additionally, Yusoff faces a separate charge of possessing two imitation pistols, for which he pleaded not guilty on October 9. The case is set for mention on December 13.
