Malaysia faces a significant economic impact from road accidents, with an average of 6,000 deaths annually. The cost to the nation is nearly RM19.7 billion, based on the Value of Statistical Life (VOSL) and Value of Serious Injury (VOSI). Each road death is estimated to cause a loss of RM3.12 million, including loss of productivity, healthcare expenses, and the long-term effect on families. Beyond fatalities, serious injuries also result in high medical and rehabilitation costs, placing a strain on the healthcare system and government finances. These losses reflect the economic damage caused by road accidents in Malaysia.
