JOHOR BAHRU — Chinese national Huang Xiaonan, a 22-year-old university student studying in Singapore, was charged in Malaysia on December 5 for kidnapping a 15-year-old girl. The incident occurred at a hotel in Johor Bahru on November 24. Prosecutors claimed Huang intended to secretly confine the girl, also a Chinese national. Bail was denied due to concerns over flight risk and the seriousness of the crime. The court noted Huang has no strong ties in Malaysia. His defense argued for bail, citing his cooperation and a local relative willing to act as surety, but the request was rejected. The case continues on January 27, 2025.
