Lawyer Latheefa Koya criticized the public prosecutor’s decision to withdraw its appeal against the acquittal of Deputy Prime Minister Datuk Seri Ahmad Zahid Hamidi in a corruption case involving the foreign visa system (VLN). Calling it a blow to Malaysia’s fight against corruption, Latheefa highlighted the thorough investigation conducted under her leadership at the MACC, disputing claims that there were strong legal grounds for the withdrawal. Citing Article 8 of the Federal Constitution, she stressed the need for equal application of the law and questioned the selective justice seen in dropping 47 other charges against Zahid. She urged government leaders, including Prime Minister Anwar Ibrahim, to address public concerns about the cases involving Zahid, a close political ally.
