Acting President Choi Sang-mok has ordered an emergency safety inspection of South Korea’s airline operations following a tragic crash that killed 179 people. A Jeju Air jet from Bangkok belly-landed and erupted into flames at Muan International Airport.

Investigators are examining factors like bird strikes and weather conditions. Two crew members survived. Authorities are working to identify victims and support families. The Transport Ministry will inspect all airline systems to prevent future accidents. 

Shares of Jeju Air plummeted. The NTSB and other U.S. agencies are aiding the investigation.
