TOKYO, Jan 5 — Michelin-starred Onodera Group paid ¥207 million (US$1.3 million) for a 276kg bluefin tuna at Tokyo’s annual New Year fish auction, marking the second-highest price ever recorded, says AFP. The winning bid, seen as a symbol of good fortune, continues Onodera’s five-year streak of securing the top fish. The record remains ¥333.6 million, set in 2019. During the pandemic, prices dipped significantly due to reduced restaurant operations and dining restrictions.
