Flying south along Malibu’s coast, the burnt-out mansions are initially rare, but closer to Pacific Palisades, charred homes stretch endlessly. The Palisades fire has devastated 19,000 acres, including Malibu.

Many homes are now ash and memories. Public access is restricted since the fire began Tuesday. Thousands of structures are estimated to be destroyed.
Skeletal frames and vanished mansions mark the affluent area. Despite some homes spared, many streets resemble cemeteries. Los Angeles district attorney described the scene as “apocalyptic.” A helicopter pilot lamented the loss from above.
