Dr. Mahathir Mohamad, reflecting on his leadership in a recent podcast, alleged that Abdullah Ahmad Badawi’s son once indicated plans to misuse power for personal gain, highlighting corruption among Malaysia’s leaders after his resignation in 2003. Mahathir expressed regret over stepping down, believing it enabled corrupt leadership.

He criticized Najib Razak for the 1MDB scandal and the “Nak malu apa bossku” slogan, which he claimed symbolized a lack of accountability. Initially hopeful about Najib’s leadership, Mahathir later played a role in his removal.

On affirmative action, Mahathir defended the gradual tapering of bumiputera privileges under the New Economic Policy but admitted embarrassment in continuing to justify such measures. He emphasized the need for cultural changes and educational reform to close economic gaps.

Mahathir also reflected on his resignation, Singapore’s success under Lee Kuan Yew, and attributed his recent electoral defeat to corruption, expressing disappointment in Malaysia’s political trajectory.
