He criticized Najib Razak for the 1MDB scandal and the “Nak malu apa bossku” slogan, which he claimed symbolized a lack of accountability. Initially hopeful about Najib’s leadership, Mahathir later played a role in his removal.

On affirmative action, Mahathir defended the gradual tapering of bumiputera privileges under the New Economic Policy but admitted embarrassment in continuing to justify such measures. He emphasized the need for cultural changes and educational reform to close economic gaps.
