Typically, the term “ham and cheese sandwich” implies a pork-based sandwich. However, in Malaysia, this naming convention now includes beef and chicken variants. Supermarkets and grocery stores offer chicken and beef versions of the traditional ham sandwich.
UMNO youth chief upset seeing ham and cheese sandwich at KK Mart
The UMNO youth chief, Dr Muhamad Akmal Saleh apparently saw “red” after seeing these sandwiches for sale at a KK Mart. X users say these items can still be halal despite being named as such. This is in lieu of the meat used.
Others agreed with the youth chief citing that he is technically right as the words are not to be used for an item that is halal.
