Housing Minister Nga Kor Ming has entered the fray in the ongoing debate over the sale of chicken ham and cheese sandwiches, a controversy that has sparked a war of words between Umno Youth and PKR Youth. The issue is whether ham can be chicken or a halal certification is justified for ‘ham’.
Nga emphasized the importance of understanding food terminology, stating, “Ham refers to a process of preparing food, not exclusively pork. Turkey ham and chicken ham are widely recognized and perfectly halal for consumption.”
He likened the issue to root beer, a drink derived from sasafras root, which is non-alcoholic despite the name “beer.” Nga criticized those politicizing the matter, remarking, “To make an issue out of this shows who the real idiot is.”
