A Sessions Court in Kota Kinabalu sentenced a teacher to 12 years’ jail and Judge Elsie Primus also ordered the 55-year-old accused to be given three strokes of the cane for raping a teenage girl. The indictment provides for a jail term of up to 20 years and whipping, upon conviction.

The judge also ordered the accused to undergo rehabilitative counselling while serving his jail term and to be placed under police supervision for three years. The victim was 16 at that time.
