Student rally: A wake-up call for Madani?

The student rally at Dataran Merdeka yesterday stirred controversy and significantly impacted the Madani government. Shouts of “Madani tipu” echoed across Kuala Lumpur. A video shared on X showed participants carrying banners and posters criticizing the government, particularly Prime Minister Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim.

One banner featured a caricature of Anwar with the words “Bapa pembebasan perasuah” (Father of Corruption Pardons). This appeared to strike a nerve with supporters of the Madani government. Dozens of mostly young protesters held a peaceful anti-corruption rally in downtown Kuala Lumpur yesterday, urging Prime Minister Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim to accelerate reforms and tackle corruption. Anwar had previously denied any involvement in corruption cases or the release of political leaders accused of corruption.
