However, their droppings contain uric acid, which can corrode materials, damaging infrastructure, cars, and monuments. Urban birds like pigeons and crows deface public spaces, leading to high cleaning costs.

Dr. Nik emphasizes ethical bird population management using nets, spikes, and repellents. Public awareness is crucial as feeding pigeons exacerbates unsanitary conditions. Penang Island City Council plans to penalize those feeding birds in public spaces.
