A devastating mid-air collision over Washington DC claimed the lives of six members of the figure skating community, including teenage skaters Spencer Lane and Jinna Han, their mothers, and Russian coaches Yevgenia Shishkova and Vadim Naumov. The plane, carrying 64 people, crashed into the Potomac River after colliding with a US Army helicopter. US Figure Skating confirmed that several athletes, coaches, and families were on board, returning from a development camp in Wichita. Skating clubs in Boston and Philadelphia expressed their grief, calling it a profound loss. Officials do not expect any survivors from the crash.
