Apple expressed concern over the safety risks, especially for children. AltStore, backed by Epic Games, noted that Apple had notarized the app, prompting backlash.
Apple stated they are mandated by the European Commission to distribute it. Epic Games CEO Tim Sweeney criticized Apple’s gatekeeping power, while Epic’s own EU app store does not host porn apps.
