Kelantan Curbs 90% of Cross-Border Crimes Since December

Since tightening enforcement on December 1, Kelantan has controlled 90% of cross-border crimes and illegal activities along Sungai Golok, says Kelantan Police Chief Datuk Mohd Yusoff Mamat. This has led to reduced visits to entertainment venues in Golok, Thailand, potentially mitigating drug abuse risks.

The closure of illegal crossings on the Malaysia-Thailand border has improved tax revenue and control over drug smuggling. Police efforts now focus on combating drug smuggling, cross-border crimes, commercial crimes, human trafficking, and illegal gambling. Overall crime rates in Kelantan decreased by 12.08% between January 1 and January 31, 2025.
