He previously remained quiet out of respect for Prime Minister Anwar Ibrahim and national stability. His statement follows DAP MP RSN Rayer questioning the police about preacher Zakir Naik’s recent appearance in Perlis despite an alleged speaking ban.

But Rayer asserted his right to speak on public issues after Perlis Mufti Asri Zainul Abidin’s remarks. “As an MP, it is my duty to speak up on matters of public interest without fear or favour,” he said, questioning if Zakir Naik’s 2019 speech ban remains in force. Most DAP MPs are still triggered by Zakir Naik, he has such a negative influence on them?
