Former MCA member Lee Hwa Beng urged the Chinese community to stop fearing PAS, calling it a strategic ally in Malaysia’s political landscape. Speaking on Zaid Ibrahim’s podcast, Lee said, “As long as we fear PAS, we cannot have a good life in Malaysia.” He argued that PAS has been unfairly demonized and that MCA should align with it, as it once did with Umno. Zaid dismissed concerns about PAS enforcing Islam on non-Muslims, stating, “PAS wants to be more Islamic towards the Muslims… They’re not interested in Islamising you.” Both emphasized the need for pragmatic political alliances.
