A court has ordered the government to pay RM4.7 million in damages to the family of murdered Mongolian woman Altantuya Shaariibuu. Judge Sumathi Murugiah ruled that the amount must be deposited within 30 days, pending the government’s appeal on May 19. Former Najib Razak adviser Abdul Razak Baginda, who was also found liable, must deposit the same amount. Altantuya, who had an affair with Razak, was murdered in 2006 after working with him on Malaysia’s submarine deal. The government and Razak are appealing the 2022 ruling that held them jointly responsible for her death.
