A company and its director face 14 charges over alleged unauthorised halal certification, following public complaints and a social media outcry. Domestic Trade and Cost of Living Minister Datuk Armizan Mohd Ali said charges were filed on January 24 after a swift investigation. While tests confirmed no pork DNA in the sandwiches, the company allegedly used an unauthorised halal logo on 366 packages. The controversy began when “ham” labeling appeared alongside the logo. Authorities clarified that while the chicken ham was halal-certified, the company itself was not. The trial against Shake and Bake Cafe Sdn Bhd and its director is ongoing.
