A pre-dawn immigration raid at Meru market complex in Klang saw desperate foreigners using guerrilla tactics to evade arrest, with some hiding in drains and others climbing rooftops. The operation, led by Immigration deputy director-general Jafri Embok Taha, resulted in the arrest of 598 individuals from Myanmar, Bangladesh, Indonesia, India, and Nepal. Violations included lacking proper documents and overstaying. The detainees were sent to the Semenyih depot for further action. Klang mayor Abd Hamid Hussain revealed that nearly 50% of market lots were rented to foreigners, prompting further inspections to curb misuse of trading licenses.
