Hiking activities at Bukit Gunong have been temporarily banned after two black panthers were reportedly spotted near a shooting range on Friday. A group of bird trappers noticed the predators around 4 PM.

According to Fazrin Izwan Ismail, chairman of the Gunong Federal Village Development and Security Committee (JPKKP), the panthers were seen about 100 meters away. The trappers also claimed to hear growls and saw one climbing a tree.

Authorities later spotted two glowing eyes during an inspection but couldn’t confirm if they belonged to the panthers. Wildlife officials have set up traps, and hiking is suspended for safety.
