Former education minister Maszlee Malik criticized Kota Melaka MP Khoo Poay Tiong’s suggestion to include all races’ history in primary school textbooks, warning that political interference could harm the education system. Maszlee emphasized that curriculum development involves education and sociology experts, not politicians. He urged politicians to avoid racial narratives that could worsen unity issues. The proposal, aimed at fostering unity, sparked backlash from Umno Youth and prompted Education Minister Fadhlina Sidek to clarify that the curriculum is decided by experts. Maszlee also questioned why Khoo did not consult Deputy Education Minister Wong Kah Woh from his own party.
