Although the issue of mixing local and imported rice has been ongoing since the 1970s, there are no clear provisions for prosecuting cases in court, said Agriculture and Food Security Minister Mohamad Sabu.

He stressed that the practice isn’t unique to the current administration and has historical roots. The Competition Commission of Malaysia (MyCC) revealed that this mixing practice aims to meet local consumer preferences. 

MyCC recommended legal mechanisms to control rice mixing. Mohamad announced steps to regulate rice prices, ensuring stability in the market.
