The rising number of bullying cases in schools necessitates immediate action and stricter measures. Bullying cases surged from 3,887 in 2022 to 5,891 in 2023. By October 2024, 5,703 cases were recorded, involving 11,594 students.
Bullying Cases Surge in Schools: Urgent Action Needed
Associate counsellor Nurhijjah Mat Zin highlighted that boys often engage in physical bullying, while girls resort to emotional and social bullying. She emphasized that bullying has severe consequences, leading to mental health issues and even fatalities.
Parents must recognize the seriousness of bullying. Nurhijjah proposed having trained counsellors in schools and adopting global best practices like Finland’s KiVa programme.
