PENANG, March 11, 2025 – Tensions are escalating within the Democratic Action Party (DAP) ahead of its polls, with former leader Lim Guan Eng facing a backlash. Once revered as “tokong” by Chinese voters, his influence is waning amid accusations of nepotism. Critics, including retired DAP figure Teng, oppose the rise of Guan Eng’s sister, Lim Hui Ying, the Deputy Finance Minister, who is seen as underperforming and benefiting from family ties. Her selection for the Tanjung seat has fueled perceptions of dynastic politics. A Selangor MP warned that Guan Eng’s corruption case could jail him without party support, highlighting deepening internal rifts.
