PAS president Abdul Hadi Awang has criticized DAP’s proposal to limit the prime minister’s term to 10 years, arguing it contradicts Islamic principles and God’s will. In a Facebook post, Hadi emphasized that leadership is a divine trust, not a temporary role to be rotated for personal gain, stating, “This is because this responsibility (to be prime minister) is a great trust from Allah. It is not a temporary position for one person to enjoy, and then be passed on to another to take advantage of.” He insisted that only qualified Muslims should hold the position and lead until death, citing historical Islamic leaders.

The proposal, supported by Prime Minister Anwar Ibrahim and raised by DAP’s Anthony Loke, sparked varied reactions: PAS Youth’s Afnan Hamimi labeled it a minority power grab, while Bachok MP Syahir Sulaiman suggested restricting the role to Muslims. Perak Menteri Besar Saarani Mohamad urged caution, warning against limiting visionary leaders. Hadi also accused liberal factions of undermining Islamic rights, though he expressed openness to collaborating with non-extremist non-Muslims who accept Islamic leadership.
