A 130-year-old Hindu temple, Dewi Sri Pathrakaliamman, in Kuala Lumpur faces demolition after Kuala Lumpur City Hall (DBKL) approved a private company’s plan to build a mosque, reportedly named “Masjid Madani,” on the site off Jalan Masjid India. Former Malaysian Bar president Ambiga Sreenevasan and Lawyers for Liberty (LFL) will address the issue at a press conference tomorrow with activists and ex-MP N Surendran. Ambiga told Malaysiakini, “Malaysia has always prided itself on the mutual respect we show each other in religious and cultural matters,” urging a fair resolution. The groundbreaking, possibly led by PM Anwar Ibrahim, is expected soon.
