Disney’s live-action Snow White topped the North American box office with $87.3 million globally in its opening weekend, but it fell short of its $270 million production cost amid mixed reviews and multiple controversies.

Criticism emerged over Rachel Zegler’s casting, her pro-Palestinian comments, and Gal Gadot’s pro-Israel comments, as well as debates about CGI versus live-action dwarfs. In China, the film underperformed, grossing less than $1 million in three days.
While Rotten Tomatoes gave it a 44% critics’ score, audience reactions were more favorable at 73%. Industry experts noted the controversies and declining Hollywood influence in Asia impacted the film’s appeal.
For the most part, people are upset at both actresses, citing that they’re allegedly too extreme right and left. Additionally, users say that the character is based on a White woman with black hair, but the actress playing her isn’t in said criteria.
