Once regarded as a “quiet luxury” jewelry brand, Van Cleef & Arpels, now widely popular due to influencer promotion, is facing backlash. A TikToker recently voiced dissatisfaction over her gold bracelet from the brand tarnishing, sparking controversy online.
Van Cleef gold bracelet allegedly tarnishing?
Social media users have expressed outrage, arguing that the brand’s customer service should be more reliable, particularly given the RM25,000 price tag. This negative experience has fueled criticism, with many questioning the quality and service associated with such a high-end, luxury purchase.
TikToker @mangomoniica states that after a few months of using said bracelet, she observed that it tarnished. She shared that the store manager allegedly gaslighted her citing that the bracelet had no visible issues.
The discussion of why luxury brands are in decline has been a continuous discussion since 2021. To many, this is the exact reason why these brands are losing revenue as customer service is allegedly sub-par.
Van Cleef “giving Shein quality” comments from social media users
Sadly for the brand, social media users are attacking their official platforms. However, this is not the first time it happened as in 2023, another TikToker @erikasgirlyworld complained that the brand allegedly changed their packaging to a cheaper substitute, which enraged the online community.
The comments appear to be gone now as the brand’s account turned off the comments of said videos from 2023. Currently, the comments are still available on the newer videos where users are commenting negative things related to this drama.

Social media users commented citing that the brand is giving “Shein quality,” with Shein being commonly known as an ultra affordable fast-fashion brand.

Additionally, the brand apparently liked a negative comment on this video citing that they have bad customer service.
In the end, the TikToker states that she was offered a full refund (which is apparently not a common thing to be done by the brand), to which social media users found it to be a lackluster conclusion. Most feel that the TikToker deserved some compensation for the trouble she went through.
