In Sandakan, a tragic early morning incident on March 30 claimed the life of a five-year-old boy, who drowned after being swept out to sea. His six-year-old sister and a 22-year-old man, the children’s cousin, remain missing. The children’s 29-year-old mother, who survived, is under treatment at Duchess of Kent Hospital. Sandakan Fire Station chief Severinus Sainkui reported that the mother took her kids into the sea at 1 a.m. for unknown reasons, only to be overtaken by waves. Despite rescue attempts, only she was saved. The boy’s body was found at 7:08 a.m., 200 meters away, as the search continues.
