KUALA LUMPUR, April 8, 2025 — The Perlis state government will make a final Federal Court bid today to recognize the three children of Hindu mother Loh Siew Hong as Muslims, despite prior rulings declaring their 2020 conversion illegal. The children, now 14 and 17, were unilaterally converted by their father without Loh’s consent. After losing at the High Court in 2023, Loh won at the Court of Appeal and Federal Court in 2024, affirming both parents’ consent is required. Perlis seeks to overturn this via a review, arguing its rights were compromised. The decision will shape religious and parental rights in Malaysia.
