PUTRAJAYA, April 9, 2025 — The High Court was told yesterday that Najib Tun Razak wielded significant authority over 1Malaysia Development Berhad (1MDB) financial decisions during his tenure as Prime Minister. Former Commercial Crime Investigation Department chief R Rajagopal testified that Najib, as the sole shareholder via the Finance Ministry, 1MDB advisory board chairman, and PM, could veto any major financial move impacting the economy. In Najib’s defense trial over the alleged misappropriation of RM2.3 billion from 1MDB, Rajagopal noted no direct evidence linking Najib to personal misuse of funds, despite his extensive powers over the state investment firm.
