GEORGE TOWN, April 8, 2025 — A 58-year-old police officer stationed at the Penang Contingent Headquarters (IPK) was seriously injured after allegedly shooting himself on Tuesday. Penang Police Chief Datuk Hamzah Ahmad reported that the incident occurred at 6:12 p.m. in the IPK guard room, where the officer, from the Camp Commandant Branch, was found with a severe head wound. Preliminary investigations confirmed one shot was fired from his pistol. The case is being probed under Section 39 of the Firearms Act 1960. The officer is receiving treatment at Penang Hospital’s Red Zone. The public is urged to avoid speculation.
