KUALA LUMPUR, April 14 — Former law minister Datuk Seri Mohamed Nazri Aziz slammed Chief Justice Tun Tengku Maimun Tuan Mat for urging the removal of the prime minister’s role in judicial appointments, calling her remarks improper. Speaking to Free Malaysia Today, Nazri defended the system, citing its British roots and the 2009 Judicial Appointments Commission he introduced.

He argued there’s no interference, pointing to Datuk Seri Najib Razak’s imprisonment. “If Anwar interfered, Najib wouldn’t be in jail. The court sentenced him. The pardons board reviewed his case. Where is the interference?” he was quoted as saying.
