UMNO Vice-President Datuk Seri Mohamed Khaled Nordin dismissed claims of internal conflict between Tapah UMNO Youth and Barisan Nasional (BN) candidate Dr Mohamad Yusri Bakir for the Ayer Kuning by-election, calling it an opposition tactic to disrupt party unity. Speaking at an Aidilfitri event in Johor Bahru, Khaled, also Defence Minister, said all UMNO wings were united for Yusri’s victory. BN chairman Datuk Seri Ahmad Zahid Hamidi also denied the allegations. Datuk Seri Ahmad Maslan praised Yusri as the ideal candidate. The April 26 by-election, triggered by the death of incumbent Ishsam Shahruddin, features a three-way contest among BN, Perikatan Nasional, and Parti Sosialis Malaysia.
