PAS acknowledges that racial composition poses challenges for Perikatan Nasional (PN) in the Ayer Kuning by-election. Perak PAS Election Secretary Ismad Shahril Che Mat cited long-standing stigma and misconceptions about PAS as obstacles to gaining non-Muslim support.

Despite having the Dewan Himpunan Penyokong PAS (DHPP) and PN coalition partners, these perceptions persist. Ismad highlighted past cooperation with DAP in 1999 as an example of overcoming such barriers. 

He emphasized PAS’s openness to collaboration with non-Muslims and noted PN’s strong candidate for Ayer Kuning. He also called for reforms, as voters seek change after years of Barisan Nasional (BN) dominance.
