Academic Tajuddin Rasdi expressed profound shame over Malaysia’s trajectory, warning that the detention of two Sin Chew Daily editors signals the nation is “teetering on the edge of becoming a failed nation” or has already plunged into an abyss. Speaking to Malaysiakini, he criticized the editors’ suspension for publishing an incomplete Jalur Gemilang image, arguing that Sin Chew’s apology, correction, and commitment to review AI procedures should suffice. He lamented Malaysia’s lack of compassion, questioning how a nation can grow without allowing mistakes, learning, or forgiveness. He decried the absence of “divine compassion” despite frequent appeals to divinity, highlighting a failing national spirit.
